On Wednesday, 10th May, we visited the Deva Roman Experience Centre in Chester..
…where we were able to experience life in Roman times. In the morning we explored the museum which gave us an insight into Roman life. We discovered how their doctors worked, the jobs performed by slaves and some of the foods they would have eaten. We were also given a tour of the cellar where remains from many periods of the cities history had been discovered by archaeologists.
After lunch we were escorted by a Roman soldier in full uniform through the streets of Chester. We visited the Roman gardens where the Roman Baths had stood originally and the ampitheatre where gladiator fights would have taken place.
It was a fantastic day out (plus we were lucky to have sunshine) which really brought the Romans to life for us.
